WHY?
le 13/03/2010 - par Tim Il n'y a pas de commentaire, soyez le premier à réagir !Oakland based Anticon legends return to Paris after their sold out show at the Nouveau Casino last summer.
Since releasing Oaklandazulasylum on Anticon records in 2003, the music of WHY? has moved away from the original lo-fi, headphones hip-hop solo project of Yoni Wolf and his cLOUDDEAD past, and towards that of a more fully-fleshed indie band experimenting with the possibilities of merging slightly skewed pop music with a hip hop aesthetic. This transformation could be witnessed on the excellent and critically-lauded Elephant Eyelash (2005), an album with a plethora of pop hooks, interesting textures, varied instrumentation and crucially, the unmistakable lyrical and vocal stylings of Yoni Wolf.
The band are currently touring new album Eskimo Snow which according to Wolf is ‘the least hip-hop out of anything I've ever been involved with’, though it was recorded at the same time and forms a kind of companion piece to the more rap-infused Alopecia, one of the best albums of 2008. Both albums were recorded in Minneapolis as a five-piece with the introduction of two members of the band Fog, Andrew Broder and Mark Erikson, into the permanent line-up.
Expect to hear a heavy selection of tracks from these sessions and perhaps if we are lucky something pulled from Hymie’s Basement, the side project of both Broder and Wolf. Support comes from Yoni’s brother and WHY? drummer Josiah Wolf, who will be playing tracks from his new (anticon) album Jet Lag and, I Might Be Wrong, female fronted indie from Berlin.
